WHAT IS COASTAL ENGINEERING

One of the subjects of Naval Architecture particularly marine studies program will be discussed or studied Mechanical Beach. COASTAL ENGINEERING is a branch of civil engineering that relies on marine engineering sciences (oceanography), meteorology, fluid mechanics, electronics, mechanics structure, geology and morphology, mathematics and statistics, computer, soil mechanics and mechanics of materials.

WHAT IS COASTAL ENGINEERING

This beach technique has applications in coastal areas, such as the example of overcoming the problem of coastal erosion by making buildings around the beach, reduction of sediment in the estuary of the river and harbor navigation channel and pond, port development, and so forth.
Field of coastal engineering studies include the following activities :

• Planning various coastal structures such as breakwaters, Jetti, Groin, Wall beach, Revetment, and so forth.
• Control of coastal erosion problem with making buildings around the beach and the addition of sediment on the beach.
• Stabilization of the mouth of the river by dredging and building construction. 
• Forecasting flow and water level in the estuary and river estuaries and its influence on water quality, sediment movement, shipping, and so forth. This is usually studied in the course of planning the port.  
• Port planning and ancillary buildings such as the breakwater, pier, dolphin, mooring systems, and so forth. 
• Study spreading of heat from a factory, for example, waste hot water from gas power plants and steam (PLTGU) or spread of pollutants / waste from a factory.  
• Reclamation of coastal areas for industrial or residential areas located around the coast.  
• The dredging of the harbor waters and manufacture of dredging material.

 Completion of coastal engineering problems that require understanding of the phenomenon of marine and coastal areas. A study on coastal engineering problems this can be done in three kinds of groups :

1. Studi theoretical and mathematical,
2. Studi in the laboratory, and 
3. Studi field.
